I’m excited to present one of the most breath taking cities in the world, La Jolla, which means the Jewel, in Spanish. Located along the coast of San Diego, with 75 miles of pure heaven ocean vistas and average temperatures of 70.5 degrees.

The Chinese Community is attracted to La Jolla for many reasons: Besides its beauty, it is centrally located. It is approximately 15 minutes to a popular Chinese market, Ranch 99. The village of La Jolla is a wonderful place to live and is within walking distance to everything from designer shops, markets, banks, entertainment, & fine dining(More information on La Jolla Chinese restaurants and reviews, please click here). The San Diego Chinese Center is a non-profit organization that provides services to meet the needs of the Chinese community, mostly first immigrants from China. It is within 30-minutes drive from La Jolla. For more information on their services, go to their website (http://www.sdchinesecenter.org).
La Jolla public schools from K1 through High School are highly rated and if qualified, offer accelerated programs called Gate & Seminar. I spent many years as a La Jolla resident, where my son's attended school. Both graduated from La Jolla high in the seminar program. Two public elementary schools offer Mandarin Immersion programs in San Diego area. They are:
These immersion schools are public therefor free for residents. They follow a 50/50 teaching plan where 50% of the teaching is in English (to ensure students follow the standard public school curriculum) and then speak 50% Mandarin.

La Jolla Country Day School is a private school that offers Mandarin as "enrichment class" to its tuitioned students. Students can choose full sequence programs in Mandarin Chinese in Grades 7-12. Another weekend Chinese school San Diego Chinese Academy uses the school campus for Chinese classes.
